The new addition is a model D with the PM4 monitor, which will allow club members to record their training data via the "Log card" system.  The Concept 2 is the second major equipment addition in the last month, following the purchase of a leg press machine in early December.

NEW LEG PRESS MACHINE.

Another instrument of torture has arrived at Newport R.C, with the delivery of a new state of the art leg press machine.  The latest addition will enhance the club's gym, and provide an excellent workout for Newport crews.

NEWPORT REGATTA 2012.

NEWPORT R.C TRIP TO THE FOURS HORR.

Several Newport members made the journey to London on the 5th November, to watch the annual Fours Head of the River Race on the Thames.
Junior members Anja Bennett and Emily Ladd were treated to guided tours of the world famous London Rowing Club and Imperial College B.C. Both of these clubs currently have GB rowers as members. Steve Salter showed the girls around London R.C including the indoor rowing tank, and the well appointed boathouse.  Newport member Amy Salter, who has recently started a degree at Imperial College turned tour guide to take Emily and Anja round their impressive premises.  Both girls were awestruck by the fantastic gym facilities.
Amy herself, has impressed the coaches at Imperial, and has been put straight in to the senior ladies squad, which means juggling eight rowing sessions each week with her studies.

NEWPORT ROWING CLUB ARE THE SOUTH COAST LADIES JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONS.

Newport R.C entered a record numbers of crews at the recent South Coast Championship Regatta, which was held on Saturday 10th September, at the 2012 Olympic venue, Dorney Lake, and were the only island club to return with silverware from the afternoon's senior regatta.

The Ladies Junior Four Crew of Nicki Whiller, Maddie Taylor, Bridget Fryer, Amy Salter and coxswain Anja Bennett secured Newport's first ever victory at the championships in fine style, leading from the start and beating Southampton R.C by four boat lengths. Earlier in the day the crew had swept aside the challenge of the Bideford Blues in their heat.  The ladies were presented with their trophy and winners medals by five time Olympic champion Sir Steve Redgrave.

Newport also entered a men's novice four, which despite a very strong row, missed out on a place in the final, a ladies novice four who performed magnificently to claim their place on the start line of the final where they recorded a sixth place, and a Junior/Senior men's four who followed up last years second place at this event by placing fourth in the final.

In the morning's junior regatta, Newport fielded a Ladies J16 double sculls crew, and a Ladies J16 single sculls crew.  The double crew was unable to progress to the final, but the single sculler, Anja Bennett managed a creditable fourth overall.
